Illustrator notes

(I) Watch Mr. Webb's demonstration and post notes to do the following on your blog:

- Creating a new canvas (document)
     press Command+N to make a new canvas
     3 sections of Adobe Illustrator (Toolbox [left], Menu bar [at the top], Panels [right])
     PROFILE: Print, SIZE: Letter, ORIENTATION: Portait

- Interface navigation, drawing tools (Illustrator's shapes & using the Pen Tool)
    Rectangle Tool (M) - makes squares and rectangles with sharp edges
    Rounded rectangle tool - makes rectangles with rounded edges
    Ellipse tool - draw circles and ovals
    Polygon Tool - draws convex regular polygons.
    Star tool - draws stars; to add more edges tap the up arrow, to remove edges tap the down arrow; to     control the sharpness of the star, hold the command key while drawing the star.

   Selection Tool (V)- looks like a black arrow.  Use to select objects that you want to move, copy or     delete.

    Pen Tool (P) - draws line segments and curves

- Setting the Fill Color, and the Stroke Color
First, select your object or line.  
Second, click on the fill color box to set the fill color. 
OR, click on the stroke color box to set the stroke color

- Saving file formats (saving for Adobe Illustrator editing vs. Saving an image for the web)
Save for Adobe Illustrator = (.ai) <<Can ONLY be opened in Illustrator.
Save for the Internet/Your blog = (.jpeg, .gif, .png) << Can be uploaded to your blog.

Size of document choose "Letter"
Orientation choose"Portrait" [straight up and down]
- Interface navigation, drawing tools (Illustrator's shapes & using the Pen Tool)
Toolbox, Menus, Panel , (3 parts of illustrator)
- Setting the Fill Color, and the Stroke Color
- Saving file formats (saving for Adobe Illustrator editing vs. Saving an image for the web)
Rectangle (M) Click and drag to draw 
Rounded rectangle :its a rectangle with rounded edges .
Ellipse (L): its a oval and circle put together.

Signs & Visual Communication, Part 2a - Elements of Design (Adobe Illustrator CS6)


1.Calligram -is a poem, phrase, or word in which the typeface, calligraphy or handwriting is arranged in a way that creates a visual image.

A rainbow , and its in the shape of a rainbow.

An Elephant , its in the shape of an elephant.

Its a bicycle , the words are explaining each object that is on the bike that is used to work together to make it what it is/to move.

2.Pictogram-a pictorial symbol for a word or phrase.

This is usually something you will see at restroom's but it's meant for the different genders,so females go into the one with the skirt on ,and males go into the normal one.

The first one means a escalator which goes up,The second one mean its a station you can change the baby's diaper . The third one is a police car and a bus.

These are things that we do in everyday life. We watch the television, We listen to music , We read ,We use the telephone, We Dance ,We may smoke [ not everyone does it] , We reproduce , We ride bikes , We drive cars.

The Life of a celebrity . In this pictogram the celebrity is a singer as we can see. A celebrity has bodyguards to protect them. Celebrities gives autographs [basically there signature ] . They go to premieres to walk the red carpet . They get there pictures taken , because they want them to but also sometimes paparazzi takes pictures unannounced so they have to run from them,they also have drivers mostly in limos .

3.A Rebus is an allusion device that uses pictures to represent words or parts of words.

It was great to meet you the other day in class... i wanted to pass on some information regarding the 1st -- we have to study for next weeks exam. The tutor said we need to listen carefully for a few hidden pointers that will be in his speech earlier in the morning tomorrow. Also keep an eye out for a lecture that is being held on sunday afternoon at 3pm that may help you achieve a happy vacation this year!

Signs & Visual Communications, Part 1



1.Alphabet- is a set of letters that is a also a symbol.





2.-Street sign:traffic sign used to identify roads, generally that aren't  expressways or highways
3-Advertisement:is a form of communication used to persuade an audience to buy or consume a product.
4.-Constellation:it was used in modern astronomy ,is a specific area of the celestial sphere in International Astronomical Union.

5.ASCII symbols:is the most common format for text files in computers and on the Internet.




6.Electronic symbols:is a pictogram used to represent various electrical and electronic devicesin a schematic diagram of an electrical or electronic circuit.

7.Morse Code:a method of transmitting text information as a series of on-off tones, lights, or clicks that can be directly understood by a skilled listener or observer without special equipment.
8.American Sign Languageis sign language of deaf communities in the United States and English-speaking.

9.Glyph:an elemental symbol within an agreed set of symbolsreadable character for the purposes of writing and thereby expressing thoughtsideas and concepts.
